Welcome to the Quarterly Pubnet Newsletter! The first quarter of the New Year shows strong growth of EDI among booksellers. The power of EDI to streamline operations is truly paying off in all bookselling communities. Plus, the added values Pubnet provides booksellers and suppliers, such as DCTS web-based EDI document tracking, are quickly being utilized as a reliable source for tracking and reporting.

Pubnet is proud to announce the first Annual Canadian User Group Meeting, being held on April 28, 2005 from 9am-4pm at the Sheraton Centre Hotel in Toronto, ON. The day's session will include information on where Pubnet is and where it plans to head in the future.

Highlighting the meeting is a Keynote Presentation from Nigel Wood, Director, Industry Relations, of the Electronic Commerce Council of Canada (ECCC), on how EDI is enabling efficiencies in other Canadian Industries and where booksellers and book suppliers can overlay these examples onto their business models to improve overall bottom lines.

Tell one--tell all, yesterday was the last day for ECPA bookstores to join Pubnet at no charge. Those who reference this email newsletter will have the extension of one week on no-cost registrations, but you should act quickly.

For members who have an established vendor relationship with Amazon, Pubnet now offers the opportunity to leverage that relationship by setting up an EDI connection. Pubnet continuously develops tools and services that our members require to make EDI trading even more effective and efficient. As a result of this driving factor, Pubnet has many projects in the works. Beta-testing is available for anyone interested in receiving a first look at these innovative solutions. Input received will directly impact the development of these products for the betterment of the entire industry. Some products currently in the works include:

Cross-Country Trading - Offers those using a C-BISAC 4010 EDI standard to trade with Pubnet members using a BISAC 3060 EDI standard automatically - without any programming changes required. This will allow the trading of Canadian and US standards as one standard. This process is currently ready to release and Pubnet is currently accepting testing requests to set this new service up with both retailers and suppliers.

General Merchandise EDI - The initial response to the availability of General Merchandise (pens, notebooks, CDs, etc...) ordering has been overwhelmingly positive. In a recent survey conducted with a college POS system, over 50% were interested in trading General Merchandise and in particular, school supplies garnered a 75% interest rating! Retailers interested in General Merchandise trading via Pubnet EDI should contact their POS systems for availability of the service. Pubnet is willing to work with any POS system and/or General Merchandise vendor to see this new use of EDI become a reality.
